about

"I chose the 10k Marathon Swim for my Olympic event. This is a long event, and swimmers have to dig deep for the endurance to last much less win. So my piece starts off in the water. Our swimmer has to focus on themself. There will be a lot of small details including other competitors that our swimmer ignores as a matter of training. Inevitably at the beginning of the race, however, there is crowding and jostling as competitors find their space at their pace. Next, the endless strokes and endless water menacingly and perpetually linger just ahead of our swimmer who struggles to keep up the pace. Eventually, our swimmer gets a second wind and passes several competitors. A euphoric flow state has been achieved. This is why our swimmer has trained so hard and so long. Still, there is a long way to go. More crowding and jostling ensues. Our swimmer will have to keep this up for a long time to have a hope at winning...."
