about

"I chose to do rowing for my composer's choice piece. As I watched some videos of the sport on youtube I noticed the rhythm in every motion of each stroke. I looked into the anatomy of a stroke and tried to express the rhythm in every bar with the downbeat being the "catch" followed by the "drive" then the "extract" and "recovery". This all comes to one complete stroke and bar of music. That rhythm is the largest part of this song that ties it to rowing but I also added a small high hat rhythm on the recovery that is supposed to be little water drops falling off the oar as well as the piece as a whole gradually speeding up towards the end to signify that it is a race with a sprint to the finish."
